The North Carolina Estuarium, 223 E. Water St., utilizes some 200 exhibits, artwork, audiovisual presentations, a film and aquariums to educate visitors about the importance of estuaries—the lower portion or wide mouth of a river where outgoing freshwater currents meet the incoming salty tide. A pontoon boat tour of Tar-Pamlico River waterways is offered Wednesday through Saturday.
