Alamance Battleground State Historic Site
AAA Editor Notes
Alamance Battleground State Historic Site, off I-40/85 exit 143, then 6 mi. s.w. to 5803 SR 62, commemorates the 1771 battle between Royalist governor William Tryon's militia and a group of Colonial reformers known as the “Regulators,” who protested taxes, corrupt officials and non-representation. The John Allen house, a log house typical of 1780s North Carolina, is on the battlefield near the visitor center. The visitor center offers a 20-minute audiovisual presentation about the battle.
