AAA Editor Notes
Johnson Geo Centre is at 175 Signal Hill Rd. next to Signal Hill National Historic Site. The center houses interactive exhibits that describe the earth’s geologic history with special attention paid to local rock formations, which are some of the oldest in the world. The mostly underground center is an exhibit itself; constructed in a basin to take advantage of natural rock walls, it is heated by six 152-metre-deep (500-ft.) geothermal wells.
A presentation in the GEO Theatre portrays the immense forces that have shaped the planet; the Steele Earth & Space Theatre shows 2-D and 3-D movies several times daily. Displays about the biology and geology of Signal Hill can be seen along eight outdoor trails. Designed for children ages 7 and under, Hibernia KidsPlace features hands-on activities designed to inspire active young minds.
Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
