AAA Editor Notes
Mount Defiance is in Ticonderoga Village, 1 mi. off SR 22 via a blacktop road. British cannon mounted at this point forced Gen. Arthur St. Clair to surrender American-held Fort Ticonderoga in 1777. At an elevation of 853 feet, the view from the overlook underscores the strategic importance of Fort Ticonderoga and provides a magnificent panorama of the fort, the Lake Champlain valley and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Note: The road to the summit is paved but quite steep.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
