Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park

Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, w. via Mill River and Oyster Bay rds., covers 409 landscaped acres of greenhouses, gardens and natural habitat. Collections include rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, orchids, ferns and bromeliads. The Synoptic Garden's ornamental shrubs and small trees are arranged alphabetically and are identified by botanical and common name and by family and country of origin. A sensory garden appeals to all five senses with colorful blooms for seeing; a fountain and wind chimes for hearing; fragrant blossoms for smelling; berries and herbs for tasting; and soft, feathery leaves for touching.
