Bryant Park is at Sixth Ave. between 40th and 42nd sts. A veritable oasis in the center of Midtown Manhattan, Bryant Park is a haven for harried New Yorkers. There are stately London planetrees, lovely landscaping, a center green for summer sunbathing, and a cordoned-off reading room with hundreds of free donated books, newspapers and magazines. The park even offers free wireless internet service and charging stations.

A classically styled carousel operates daily (weather permitting). Morning tai chi and evening yoga classes, afternoon arias and free outdoor entertainment—including classic old films shown on a big screen under the stars in summer and ice skating in the winter—also take place. Other complimentary activities include a five-hole putting green, a Kubb lawn, ping pong tables, a board game area and a Petanque terrain.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
