AAA Editor Notes
Stonewall National Monument, at 26 Wall St., commemorates and preserves the location of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising; the series of protests occurred in response to police raids of LGBTQ+ establishments, which were common at the time. The Christopher Park section of the Stonewall National Monument is significant because it was the gathering place for many of these protests and continues to be a symbol of hope and progress for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Stonewall Uprising marked a turning point in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. Today, visitors can explore Christopher Park as well as storied Stonewall Inn, which still operates today as a bar, restaurant and historical landmark. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, funded privately and operated by Pride Live, is next to the Stonewall Inn. Stonewall tours, exhibits, lectures and rotating works by LGTBQ+ artists is available.
