National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution is next to The Battery park in the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House at One Bowling Green. The Beaux-Arts building, designed by celebrated American architect Cass Gilbert, features exterior sculptures by Daniel Chester French, a dramatic rotunda with an oval skylight and murals by Reginald Marsh. The museum presents changing exhibitions that highlight the art and cultures of Native peoples from throughout the Western hemisphere.
On the grounds is the National Native American Veterans Memorial. Designed by Marine Corps veteran Harvey Pratt, a member of Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, the sculpture recognizes the military service of Native Americans.
