AAA Editor Notes
Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site is off SR 9G, .5 mi. n. of St. Andrews Rd. Val-Kill, the main cottage, was Mrs. Roosevelt's weekend and holiday retreat during her husband's presidency and became her permanent home after his death in 1945. The personal freedom Mrs. Roosevelt enjoyed at Val-Kill fostered her intellectual and emotional growth; she welcomed visitors from around the world and all walks of life, engaging in an exchange of ideas about such issues as human and civil rights and world peace. The restored visitors center offers an orientation film, and the grounds include gardens, outbuildings and a pond.
