Buffalo Zoo, 2 mi. n. on Elmwood Ave., then e. on Iroquois Dr. to 300 Parkside Ave. in Delaware Park, has indoor and outdoor displays of more than 1,000 animals and birds on 23.5 acres. The zoo's exhibits are divided among three major regions: The Americas, Australia/Asia and Africa. Color-coded signs indicate what geographic area you are in.
One of the most popular displays is M&T Bank Rainforest Falls, a two-story enclosure filled with tropical foliage, a 25-foot-tall waterfall and such animals as poison dart frogs; capybara; roseate spoonbills; and capuchin, squirrel and howler monkeys. The Arctic Edge area features polar bears, fox, Canadian lynx and American bald eagles. Special exhibits include Otter Creek, Sea Lion Cove, and the Delta Sonic Heritage Farm. Carousel and train rides are available in season.
