Phelps Mansion Museum, 191 Court St., boasts exemplary post-Civil War Victorian architecture. The three-story brick and stone mansion was built for Judge and Mayor Sherman Phelps in 1870-1872. The finest walnut, rosewood, maple and oak is found throughout; examples include a handcrafted black walnut staircase and seven intricately hand-carved fireplaces featuring floor-to-ceiling mantles. Highlights include 13.5-foot-tall ceilings, original chandeliers and imported marble floors.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
