Quarai Ruins

Quarai Ruins are 8 mi. n. of Mountainair on SR 55, then 1 mi. w. on a hard-surfaced road. At the site are 10 large unexcavated pueblo house mounds. The remains of the 1630 church and convent of Nuestra Señora de La Purísma Concepción de Cuarac include impressive sandstone walls nearly 40 feet tall. The ruins of another, smaller church dating from before 1820 also can be seen.
