Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Frelinghuysen Arboretum is 3 mi. e. on Morris Ave., then n. on Ridgedale Ave. and e. to 353 E. Hanover Ave., opposite the Morris County Library. Contrasts between field and woodland, naturalized plantings and formal gardens characterize the 127-acre preserve, which surrounds a historic Colonial Revival mansion. Trees and shrubs are labeled. Demonstration gardens include a Blue Garden, an Alpine Garden and a French Intensive Vegetable Garden. An education center displays exhibits and a carriage house. Events and programs also are available; phone ahead.
