Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge

Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is e. on Lee's Hill Rd. to 32 Pleasant Plains Rd. The land now occupied by this 7,768-acre refuge was going to be used for the construction of an airport before local residents intervened. Marsh and swamp woodland habitats are home to muskrats, foxes, fish, turtles and nearly 250 species of birds, including raptors, waterfowl and migrating birds.

A wildlife observation center features boardwalk trails and observation blinds. More than 8 miles of hiking trails wind through the habitats.
