Mount Washington Cog Railway is 6 mi. n.w. on SR 302, then 6 mi. n.e. to 3168 Base Station Rd. Opened in 1869, the historic railway bills itself as the first mountain-climbing cog railway in the world. Coal-fired steam and biodiesel-powered trains take passengers on a scenic 3-hour round-trip to the top of 6,288-foot Mount Washington—the highest peak in the Northeast. The base station features a museum that has media and interactive presentations.

Season runs late May to early October.

Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
