Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center

Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center is .6 mi. s. at 1000 Main St. on the Chadron State College campus. The center showcases the legacy of renowned author Mari Sandoz and is devoted to preserving the culture and history of the High Plains, with an emphasis on the cattle ranching industry. Sandoz was perhaps the foremost interpreter of Nebraska's history, which she presented with compassion and spunk. Her manuscripts and artifacts are housed in the center's archives.

Galleries feature historical and scientific exhibits, while the outside grounds' flower beds and trees help portray the natural history of the Sandhills and High Plains. The center also hosts a variety of temporary exhibits from across the country.
