Montana State Capitol is at 1301 Sixth St. Faced with sandstone and Montana granite, the capitol is topped by a dome of Montana copper. The cornerstone was laid July 4, 1899, and the building was dedicated July 4, 1902. Historical paintings and statues decorate the interior; prominent among these is Charles M. Russell's largest painting, the 12-by-25-foot “Lewis and Clark Meeting Indians at Ross' Hole,” in the House of Representatives.
