Patee House Museum is at 12th and Penn sts. One of the finest hotels west of the Mississippi when it opened in 1858, it also was the headquarters of the Pony Express. The museum contains re-created Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad and Pony Express offices, a wood-burning locomotive and mail car from the 1860s era, a street with models of St. Joseph buildings from the early 1900s, a vintage carousel known as “The Wild Thing,” and antique transportation and communications collections.
