Shelter Insurance Gardens

Shelter Insurance Gardens is off I-70 exit 124, s. on Stadium Blvd., then e. to 1817 W. Broadway St., behind the insurance company's headquarters. Tucked behind stone and wrought-iron gates at the home office complex of Shelter Insurance Companies are 5 acres planted with more than 300 varieties of native trees and shrubs, along with more than 15,000 annuals and perennials. Rose, shade, rock, conifer and desert gardens as well as a garden for the blind are all tagged for identification.

The site is also graced by a gazebo, a waterfall, sundial, pools and a memorial to Vietnam veterans. A free summer concert series is presented Sunday evenings, June through July.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
