Eudora Welty House and Garden
AAA Editor Notes
Eudora Welty House and Garden is at 1119 Pinehurst St. The celebrated author lived in this two-story, Tudor Revival-style house from the time it was built in 1925 until her death in 2001. Welty left her home and extensive library in addition to correspondence, manuscripts and photographs to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Visitors also will see many furnishings donated by her family including artwork, gifts from friends, mementos Welty collected during her extensive travels, and the desk at which she wrote many of her internationally acclaimed essays, novels and short stories as well as her memoir. The house is open for guided tours only.
Outside, Welty's garden looks much as it did when she and her mother tended it in during the 1920s, '30s and '40s.
Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
