AAA Editor Notes
Science Museum of Minnesota is at 120 W. Kellogg Blvd. Housed in a six-story building overlooking the Mississippi River, the museum offers hands-on exhibits that allow visitors to touch a tornado, race a professional athlete, walk under a two-story dinosaur or climb aboard a Mississippi River towboat. An Egyptian mummy, a gallery devoted to the human body, anthropology displays and the Experiment Gallery are other favorites. Also included is a collection of questionable medical devices dating from 1790.

The Omnitheater, which is also an IMAX laser dome, presents giant screen movies about space, science and nature. Outdoor terraces offer views of the river.

The Mississippi River Visitor Center, in the museum's lobby, is managed by the National Park Service; it has exhibits and a movie that provide information about the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. This is a good place to find out about recreational opportunities and regularly scheduled ranger river walks.

Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
