Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam

Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam is at the foot of Portland Ave. Completed in 1963, the lock has a lift of nearly 50 feet, permitting river traffic to reach industrial and commercial sections of the city. Nearby is Stone Arch Bridge, an engineering landmark. From the vantage point of the St. Anthony Visitor Center there are panoramic views of the lock and dam and St. Anthony Falls. Exhibits in the visitor center chronicle the history of the falls. Rangers lead short walks out to the lock walls.
