St. Nicholas College

St. Nicholas College (Colegio de San Nicolas) is at the corner of Calle Nigromante and Av. Madero Poniente, a block n.w. of Plaza de Armas. This is the oldest Mexican university still in operation, and was the second educational institution to be established in the Americas. Among its distinguished alumni were War of Independence leaders José María Morelos and Father Miguel Hidalgo. Interesting frescoes decorate the inner walls of the main building's colonial patio.
