Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is at 1000 E. Beltline N.E. The 158-acre barrier-free gardens and sculpture park contain perennial, American, Victorian, arid, shade and farm gardens; nature trails; a carnivorous plant house; and tropical plants in the five-story, 15,000-square-foot Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory, said to be the state’s largest. A 30-acre outdoor sculpture park boasts more than 200 sculptures by such artists as Henry Moore, Claes Oldenburg, Auguste Rodin, Richard Serra and Ai Weiwei. An 8-acre Japanese garden features waterfalls, a Zen-style garden and a teahouse, all surrounded by contemporary sculpture.
A children’s garden also is featured, and a tropical butterfly exhibition takes place March through April. An outdoor summer concert series is hosted in a 1,900-seat amphitheater. Narrated tram tours of the grounds are available.
