University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) is at 525 S. State St. at S. University Ave. on the University of Michigan central campus. One of the largest university art museums in the country, UMMA's comprehensive collection features more than 21,000 works of art.
The objects represent key schools of art and movements from African, Asian and Western traditions. Works by many of the great masters can be seen. Highlights include works by Max Beckmann, Helen Frankenthaler, Franz Kline, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Joshua Reynolds, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Kara Walker and James McNeill Whistler. The museum also presents many special exhibits throughout the year.
Guided tours, which last 45-60 minutes, are available.
