Custom House Maritime Museum, 25 Water St., is a classic Greek Revival-style custom house built in 1835 and designed by architect Robert Mills, who also designed the Washington Monument and the U.S. Treasury Building. Exhibits pertain to more than 300 years of maritime history and trade and shipbuilding on the Merrimac River as well as Coast Guard and lifesaving history.
