Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St., is purportedly the nation's first landscaped cemetery. Founded in 1831, it contains the graves of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Church of Christ, Scientist; poets Oliver Wendell Holmes and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; abolitionist and author Julia Ward Howe; and architect and inventor Buckminster Fuller. It also features an arboretum and outdoor sculptures.
