Itsanitaq Museum, 242 La Verendrye Ave., formerly known as the Eskimo Museum, contains exhibits that depict the history and culture of the northern region of Canada. Founded in 1944 by Roman Catholic missionaries, it pays tribute to the creativity and beliefs of the Canadian Inuits. Highlights of the museum are Inuit carvings in bone, ivory, stone and antler as well as wildlife specimens, artifacts and tools dating from 1700 B.C.
