Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve / Wells Reserve at Laudholm is off I-95 (Maine Tpke.) exit 19, 1 mi. e. to US 1 (following signs), 1.5 mi. n. to Laudholm Farm Rd., then .5 mi. e., following signs. An educational, research and recreational facility occupies a 19th-century saltwater farm with Greek Revival architecture. Coastal-themed exhibits are displayed.
The 2,250-acre preserve offers 7 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails, providing access to the woodlands, fields, wetlands, beach and dunes. Trail maps are available at the visitor center and the entry kiosk.
Note: Pets are not permitted.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
