Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain Museum

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain Museum, 226 Maine St., is a partially restored Federal-style house with Victorian Gothic additions. The house once belonged to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, a Civil War hero, president of Bowdoin College and governor of Maine 1867-71. Guests Chamberlain entertained at the house include Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Helen Keller and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
