AAA Editor Notes
Cadillac Mountain is accessible by way of 3.5-mi. Cadillac Mountain Rd., which is off Park Loop Rd. about 1 mi. s. of the park's Cadillac Mountain entrance. Visitors can drive all the way to the rocky summit of 1,530-foot Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the U.S. Atlantic seaboard. From a .4-mile loop trail at the top, the panorama encompasses Bar Harbor, almost the whole of Mount Desert Island and the wooded islands in Frenchman Bay.
Hikers also can reach the summit via the moderately difficult 2.2 mi. (one way) North Ridge Trail and the strenuous 3.7 mi. (one way) Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail from Blackwoods Campground.
Note: Cadillac Mountain Road is closed in winter (typically Dec. 1-Apr. 14).
