Kentucky Down Under/Mammoth Onyx Cave, off I-65 exit 58, .2 mi. s.e. on SR 218, then n. on SR 335 to 3700 L & N Turnpike Rd., is an interactive nature park that is home to both Australian wildlife and a cave filled with unusual onyx formations.
At Kentucky Down Under visitors can roam with kangaroos and other Australian animals in the Outback, hand-feed vibrant-colored birds in two walk-in aviaries, watch border collies herd sheep, participate in aboriginal culture and take part in chores at the woolshed. A nature trail, an exotic bird garden and other exhibits also are featured.
A 45-minute guided tour through Mammoth Onyx Cave allows visitors to see colorful cave formations in a constant 60°F environment.
Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
