AAA Editor Notes
Old State Capitol is at Broadway and Lewis sts. The Old State Capitol was the seat of government 1830-1910. Designed by Kentucky architect Gideon Shryock and built mostly of Kentucky River marble, a local limestone, the building marked the first use of Greek Revival architecture west of the Appalachians. A highlight of the building is a self-supporting stone circular stairway in the rotunda. The building has been restored to its 1850s appearance.
