McPherson Opera House

McPherson Opera House is at 219 S. Main St. After an $8 million restoration project, the 1889 McPherson Opera House is a Victorian architectural showpiece. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 470-seat auditorium has two balconies and a 1913 hand-painted mural above the stage. The entrance to the red brick and limestone building is highlighted by stained glass underneath a carved stone balustrade and a two-story stone arch; the doorway is flanked by granite columns. The opera house offers entertainment ranging from plays and films to opera and musical performances throughout the year.
