Mines of Spain Recreation Area

Mines of Spain Recreation Area is .2 mi. s. of jct. US 52/61/151 at 8991 Bellevue Heights. The 1,439-acre area, characterized by rugged limestone bluffs, thick woodlands, tall grasses and wetlands, features 29 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails and scenic overlooks of the Mississippi River. E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center, a 37-acre wildlife refuge, houses natural and historic displays and has a children's activity area and a bird and butterfly garden. Julien Dubuque Monument honors the city's founder.

Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
