Newfields (Indianapolis Museum of Art) is at 4000 Michigan Rd. The museum complex on the former J.K. Lilly Jr. estate includes the 26-acre Oldfields-Lilly House & Gardens and the 100-acre Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park.
The main building contains permanent and changing exhibitions ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary masterpieces. Paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, textiles, costumes, photographs, prints and drawings make up the collection.
Highlights include more than 2,000 objects of African art, the Clowes Collection of old master works, the Holliday Collection of neo-impressionist paintings by Georges Seurat and his followers, and paintings and prints by Paul Gauguin and students of the School of Pont-Aven. Japanese artwork from the Edo period, Chinese ceramics, West Asian rugs, contemporary studio glass and works by Indiana artists also are displayed.
