The Art Institute of Chicago is at 111 S. Michigan Ave. at Adams St. in Grant Park. The institute houses well-known artwork ranging from ancient to the present. The Impressionist and Postimpressionist, 20th-century and mixed media collections are among the best in the world. Also outstanding are the museum's collections of Asian art as well as American paintings and furniture. In addition the institute displays prints and drawings, decorative arts, photographs, textiles, architectural fragments and drawings and art from Africa and the Americas.

The Modern Wing, designed by award-winning architect Renzo Piano, provides an airy, light-filled space for displaying the institute's collections of contemporary art and modern European paintings and sculptures. The Edlis/Neeson Collection showcases 44 masterpieces of contemporary art including works by Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol. You'll also find selections from the institute's photography, architecture and design collections; a 625-foot pedestrian bridge connects the Modern Wing with Millennium Park.

Other outstanding collections include the George F. Harding Collection of arms and armor and the Mrs. James Ward Thorne Collection of miniature rooms, handmade to the smallest detail. Gallery talks, lectures and tours are available.
