Church of San Felipe Neri

Church of San Felipe Neri (Oratorio de San Felipe Neri) is at calles Insurgentes and Loreto, 2 blks. n.e. of the main plaza. It was built by San Miguel's Indian population in the early 18th century. The original structure is graced with a lovely facade of pink stone and detailed carvings of saints. The southern exterior, added later, incorporates a baroque style, and the difference is striking. Pass through the low, narrow entrance vestibule to the church's interior, replete with ancient wood benches, rich gold leaf decoration and colorful ceramic statues. The small garden courtyard is a cool and peaceful spot to relax.
