Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve

Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve is reached by a 30-minute ferry ride. To reach the dock take I-95 exit 58, then SR 99 s. 9.1 mi. to Landing Rd. in Meridian, then left to the Sapelo Island Visitors Center. The visitor center at the dock features exhibits and information about the area. Bus tours may include the Palladian-style R.J. Reynolds mansion, the Sapelo Lighthouse, the University of Georgia Marine Institute and Hog Hammock, a small community of Sapelo Plantation slave descendants.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
