National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center

National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center, adjacent to Fort Benning at 1775 Legacy Way, is dedicated to the evolution of the infantry since the French and Indian Wars. The Last 100 Yards depicts the infantry's role toward the end of any battle. Cast figures based on actual infantry soldiers bring the scenes to life. The Fort Benning Gallery presents the history of Fort Benning and the training recruits receive. Additional galleries offer interactive experiences that emphasize the sacrifices made by soldiers during times of war. The Hall of Valor shares the stories of American infantrymen who have received the Medal of Honor. Other honor galleries include Ranger Hall of Honor. Combat simulators allow visitors to experience infantry action.

The museum also pays homage to those who served in the infantry. Lined with commemorative pavers and state flags, the Heritage Walk leads guests to Inouye Field. Beyond the field is the Memorial Walk of Honor. Here guests will find monuments to infantry units and associations. The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall in Vietnam Memorial Plaza is inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 Vietnam War servicemen and women, and the Global War on Terrorism Memorial features a steel beam from the World Trade Center and granite panels engraved with the names of soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines killed since September 11.

Also outside the main museum building is a World War II Company Street. Here guests can stroll through some of the restored buildings, including barracks, mess hall, supply room, orderly room and chapel, as well as headquarters used by Gen. George S. Patton before his deployment to North Africa. There is also a Giant Screen Theatre that shows 3-D documentaries and feature films.
