Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site

Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site, 6 mi. s. of I-75 exit 288 following signs to 813 Indian Mounds Rd., preserves the remains of a Native American settlement occupied 950-1550 A.D. The 54-acre site includes six earthen mounds, a plaza, borrow pits, a fish trap in the Etowah River and a defense ditch. A museum displays artifacts excavated from the mounds and interprets religious and cultural practices of the site's former residents.
