Augusta Canal Discovery Center

Augusta Canal Discovery Center is at 1450 Greene St., Suite 400. Part of the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, the discovery center, which is housed in a renovated 19th-century cotton mill, describes the canal’s 170-year history through interactive exhibits and displays of working mill machinery. “The Power of a Canal,” a 10-minute film shown in a surround-sound theater, orients visitors to the 10,000-square-foot facility.

The Petersburg Boat Guided Tours depart several times daily and offer a variety of 1- to 1.5-hour narrated canal excursions (weather permitting), passing natural and historic sites along the way. Tours featuring live musical performances also are offered.
