Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
AAA Editor Notes
Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, on Osceola Pkwy., celebrates nature and promotes conservation. At the island's center stands the 145-foot Tree of Life® with more than 300 intricate carvings of animals. Shown in a theater inside the tree, “It's Tough to be a Bug!®” is a comical 3-D, special-effects adventure inspired by the Disney•Pixar movie “A Bug's Life.” In the attraction queue and on the Discovery Island® Trails there are many opportunities for up close viewing of the Tree of Life. Bridges branch off from the island into themed lands.
Pandora—The World of Avatar celebrates the magic of nature. Be sure to take an expedition through the Valley of Mo'ara, where one can walk amid floating mountains as well as encounter two attractions. On Avatar Flight of Passage, riders can fly on the back of a “mountain banshee” during a 3-D ride above a vast moon. For a more peaceful excursion, journey deep into a bioluminescent rainforest in search of the Na'vi Shaman of Songs on Na'vi River Journey.
Cross into Africa to explore Harambe, a village designed to look like a modern-day African town. Kilimanjaro Safaris® takes passengers on a bumpy ride in an open-air vehicle through a 100-acre savanna where antelopes, cheetahs, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, lions, ostriches, rhinos and other animals roam freely.
Safari guides drop riders off at the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail where animal viewing includes gorillas, hippos and exotic birds. The Wildlife Express Train transports visitors to Rafiki's Planet Watch®, an interactive, educational experience that includes Conservation Station®, Habitat Habit! and Affection Section.
A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King, an extravagant theatrical show based on the film, is performed in Harambe Theatre.
The land of Asia features Expedition Everest®, a high-speed train ride through the Himalayas, where the legendary yeti, also known as the abominable snowman, lurks. Then cool off during a white-water rafting adventure at Kali River Rapids®.
Beautiful Asian tigers can be seen from multiple vantage points on the Maharajah Jungle Trek®, where the pathway provides glimpses of other animals, including a Komodo dragon.
DinoLand U.S.A.® is the home of the thrill ride DINOSAUR, which blasts back 65 million years to rescue a dinosaur from a deadly asteroid speeding toward Earth. Young kids and adults can hop on TriceraTop Spin to ride a flying dinosaur. The Boneyard® dig site is an open-air playground where children can maneuver through a maze of dinosaur skeletons and look for giant mammoth “bones.” DinoLand USA is teeming with colorful new décor and festively dressed characters at Donald’s Dino-Bash! You’ll find more old friends than Disney’s Animal Kingdom park has ever seen before—including Donald himself, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto and Launchpad McQuack. You’ll even catch Chip ’n Dale in their all-new dino-inspired costumes.
