Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum

Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum is .5 mi. w. of I-91 exit 26 at 211 Main St. This complex of three 18th-century houses reflects generations of history. They include the elegant 1781 home of the first U.S. diplomat, Silas Deane; the 1752 Webb House, site of George Washington's 1781 meeting with French General Comte de Rochambeau to plan a joint campaign to end the American Revolutionary War; and the post-Industrial Revolution household of leatherworker Isaac Stevens, dating from 1820. Family artifacts, costumes, textiles and decorative arts are all part of the museum collection.

Murals commissioned by Wallace Nutting in the hallway and front parlors of the Webb House depict the Battle of Yorktown, the Yorktown Campaign and other historic sites, and the room in which Washington slept retains its original 18th-century flocked wallpaper. A 1921 Colonial Revival garden designed by one of the first female landscape architects is on the grounds.
