Sherwood Island State Park

Sherwood Island State Park, off I-95 exit 18 then just s. via the Sherwood Island Connector, is Connecticut's first state park. Located on Long Island Sound, it offers a beach with showers, walking trails through a salt marsh that is home to many birds, an observation platform with views of the surrounding area and a 9/11 memorial. The park's nature center has lots of kid-oriented exhibits emphasizing the local ecosystem; turtles, crabs and other marine life are on display in aquariums.

Note: Pets are permitted Oct. 1-Apr. 14. Alcohol is not permitted inside the park.
