Sheffield Island can be reached by ferry from Seaport Dock at 4 N. Water St. (next to the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk). A 49-passenger ferry, the C.J. Toth, offers scenic cruises through Norwalk harbor and past several of the Norwalk Islands en route to Sheffield Island, its outermost.
The cruise lasts 3 hours; the sea route takes 45 minutes each way, and passengers disembark for 1.5 hours to enjoy the island and its nature trail. A guided tour of historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse is included.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
