West Rock Ridge State Park is off Merritt Pkwy. exit 60, s. on Dixwell Ave., w. on Benham St., s. on Main St., then s. to the park entrance, 1134 Wintergreen Ave. The park is located along a six mile long ridge rising up to 700 feet high and encompassing more than 1,800 acres, offers 26 miles of trails, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, car-top boating, picnicking and scenic views. The park drive to the South Overlook and Judges Cave is open June to October to cars; parking is available year-round at Lake Wintergreen, on Hill Street, and at the West Rock Nature Center. Of interest is Judges' Cave, is named for two British judges who condemned King Charles I to death and hid from capture by agents of King Charles II.
