Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center

Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center is off SR 2 (SR 214 exit), then s. on SR 214 to Foxwoods Blvd., following signs to 110 Pequot Tr. The center is devoted to the history and culture of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and other Eastern Woodland tribes. The native and natural history of southern New England from the last ice age to the present is examined through dioramas, interactive displays, audiovisual presentations, archeological collections, artwork and traditional crafts. Exhibits about the impact of the last ice age include a large globe showing glacial movements and a simulated glacial crevasse complete with ice.

A re-creation of a 16th-century Pequot village features wigwams and clothing made by native craftspeople. Interactive 3-D computers and 13 filmed presentations explain daily life and present historical events. An 18-story lookout tower offers panoramic views of reservation land. The center also contains research and children's libraries. On the grounds of an 18th-century farmstead are a garden and orchard.
