AAA Editor Notes
Fewkes Canyon Sites are visible from Mesa Top Rd. in Mesa Verde National Park. Near the head of the canyon is Fire Temple, one of the most remarkable of the sites. Nearby is New Fire House, composed of two alcoves. In the upper alcove are a number of living rooms; the lower one contains a few living rooms and three kivas.
Down the canyon a short distance in a deep, arched alcove is Oak Tree House (which was partially excavated by archeologist Jesse Walter Fewkes), with about 50 living rooms and seven kivas. South of this building and directly under Sun Temple is Mummy House, visible from several overlooks and short trails.
