AAA Editor Notes
Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site, 6 mi. e. to 35110 SR 194E, is a reconstruction of an adobe fur trading post that operated here 1833-49. It figured prominently in westward expansion and maintained friendly relations with many Native American tribes. Kit Carson once worked here as a hunter and trader. The rooms, restored to the 1846 era, include a kitchen, blacksmith shop and trade room. Guides in period dress demonstrate life in the 1840s (June-Sept.). An orientation film is available.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
